Celebrating International Volunteer Day 2025

By Communications Heart News   |   5th Dec 2025

The Irish Heart Foundation is a community of people who fight to protect and care for every heart affected by heart disease, stroke and thrombosis in Ireland and support those living with these life-changing conditions.

Volunteers are at the heart of what we do, and we couldn’t do it without their support.

At the Irish Heart Foundation, we offer a range of support services to help improve the quality of life and well-being of people, and their carers, after a heart event or stroke.

From phoning someone for a chat, to providing vital peer support, or driving a vulnerable stroke patient to their support group, to advocating for patients in communities across Ireland, our volunteers acts of kindness make a real difference.

This International Volunteer Day, we want to acknowledge each and every one of our volunteers, and to thank them for all they do to help us care and support those who need us most.

We spoke with Sanoj about what volunteering with the Irish Heart Foundation means to him.

“I wanted to do something for society, and when I started looking for opportunities, I came across the Irish Heart Foundation and saw the impact it is making in the community”.

“I have been volunteering with the Irish Heart Foundation for the past eight months. My first day of volunteering was on 24th March 2025”.

“I work as a Patient Support Administrator volunteer. My role is to call stroke survivors and inform them about the aftercare services provided by the Irish Heart Foundation, so they can receive all the support they need during these tough times”.

“I volunteer for around two hours each week, which helps me balance my studies at UCD and my part-time job at Tesco”.

“Even though I’m a volunteer, from day one itself I have always felt like I’m part of the team. The team were so good in helping me understand how important my role as a volunteer is and they have been so supportive. They provide us with results on how many calls we’ve made, to help us understand the impact we make.”

“Every volunteer makes a difference. Today we celebrate the small acts that create big change, thank you to all our wonderful volunteers for showing that every contribution truly matters. “
