
The Health Promotion Alliance Ireland (HPAI) is an all-island coalition with a shared interest in advocating for major policy change to promote the primary prevention of chronic disease. It comprises over twenty leading organisations.

To improve the long-term health and wellbeing of the people in Ireland by:
Prevention does not just mean campaigns or early detection of disease. It also means stopping these preventable diseases developing in the first place. This is called primary prevention. To address the causes of chronic disease a major shift to primary prevention is required.
Our main goal is to effect change in the key policy areas of tobacco, alcohol, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity. We do this by advocating for the WHO best buys primary prevention policy solutions and highlighting the impact industry tactics have in delaying public health measures
By leveraging the expertise, resources, and networks of our member organisations, the Alliance aims to drive positive systemic changes and influence public health policies that empower individuals and communities to lead healthier lives while reducing health inequalities.

The Alliance is led and supported by the Irish Heart Foundation, which established the group, provides its secretariat, and chairs its work. Membership is free, and the alliance operates through the shared expertise, resources, and networks of its members.
