Communities, workplaces and healthcare environments have changed a lot in recent years. In response to this, the Irish Heart Foundation is developing a wider health promotion initiative to promote physical activity in these settings and help people move more.
In light of this, the Slí na Sláinte route development and Walking Leader Training courses were concluded in January 2026. Existing Slí na Sláinte walking routes will, where possible, remain available for communities and workplaces to continue to use them. However, they will no longer be coordinated by the Irish Heart Foundation, and no new routes will be developed.
The Irish Heart Foundation’s longstanding commitment to promoting and supporting physical activity as a key risk factor for cardiovascular disease remains a priority. We will continue to empower communities and workplaces across Ireland with information, resources and tools to enable them to make healthier choices.
We acknowledge the HSE’s long-standing support and sincerely thank the local sports partnerships, community groups, volunteers, local authorities and partners who also helped support and deliver the programme over the last 30 years, and all who have enthusiastically participated.
Take the Move More Walking Challenge – your heart will thank you for it.
