Policy summit to bring heart failure centre stage

New virtual event dedicated to heart failure policy and advocacy will take place next week.

The inaugural Heart Failure Policy Summit will take place next week and aims to put heart failure centre stage with other major policy debates.

The event, which will take place online from the 16th to the 18th of November, brings together patient advocates, healthcare professionals, clinical leaders, policymakers, and other key figures in heart failure care across Europe.

The summit will frame heart failure alongside major policy debates, such as health system sustainability and resilience; showcase change leaders in heart failure policy; facilitate peer learning; and highlight priority topics for the future of heart failure care.

As a comprehensive, virtual event, attendance is free of charge and open to all who are passionate about transforming heart failure care.

The three-day online event is organised by the  Heart Failure Policy Network; an independent, multidisciplinary platform of healthcare professionals, advocacy groups and policymakers from across Europe.

The summit will feature almost 30 expert speakers over three evenings, including, Professor Giuseppe Rosano, President Elect of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Heart Failure Association (HFA); CEO of the European Heart Network Ms Birgit Berger; ESC ACNAP President-Elect Professor Izabella Uchmanowicz, European Commissioner John F Ryan of DG Sante, Mr Billy Kelleher MEP, Global Heart Hub CEO Mr Neil Johnson, Consultant Cardiologist Professor Ken McDonald, Ambrose McLoughlin; and Dr Joe Gallagher, GP with a specialist interest in heart failure.

The event will also address a number of important topics and issue including, the framing of heart failure alongside current major policy debates such as  active ageing, health inequalities, health system sustainability and resilience, and post-COVID-19 recovery.

The summit will also highlight priority topics for heart failure care in 2021 and beyond, including clinical delegation and digital innovation, showcase change leaders in heart failure policy, facilitate peer learning and gain insights into the perspective of decision-makers; and  offer a new online platform for multi-stakeholder networking and collaboration.

The online platform will allow attendees to interact both during and after each session and attendees will be able to message one another directly using the chat function and take part in virtual networking sessions.
