Muscle Strengthening

We use our muscles for everyday tasks like carrying shopping bags, walking upstairs and standing up from a seated position.

As we get older, we begin to lose muscle so these everyday tasks can become more difficult. To prevent loss of muscle strength all adults should include some form of muscle strengthening activities 2-3 times a week.

Everyday activities like digging in the garden or carrying grocery bags can help keep our muscles strong. We can also use small handheld weights or weight machines. An even easier way to keep our muscles strong is to use our own body weight to complete some simple exercises.

Please see the video below for two muscle strengthening exercises that don’t need any special equipment and can be done at home.
