Impressive line up of speakers for IHF stroke conference

Irish and international experts to address the Irish Heart Foundation’s annual stroke conference for healthcare professionals next month

International cardiologist from the world famous Karolinska Institute in Sweden Professor Mårten Rosenqvist, is one of a number of expert speakers due to address the Irish Heart Foundation’s 22nd Annual Stroke Conference next month.

Prof Rosenqvist, Professor of Cardiology at the Karolinska Institute and world-renowned expert on atrial fibrillation, will address the conference on ‘Atrial Fibrillation: The Role of Anticoagulation on the Incidence of Stroke and Dementia’.

Additional speakers include Professor Jean-Michel Gracies, from the Henri Mondor University Hospital, and Université Paris Est Créteil in France. Prof Gracies is a world-renowned expert in movement disorder and he will speak on ‘Spasticity Management in Stroke’.

Professor David Clarke, Associate Professor in Stroke Care at the Academic Unit of Elderly Care and Rehabilitation, the Institute of Health Sciences, University of Leeds in the UK, will outline his work on the REACT Study- What factors explain why some inpatient stroke survivors do not Receive the Recommended Frequency and Intensity of Therapy.

The conference will also be addressed by a number of Irish experts in stroke care including: Professor Rónán Collins, Consultant Geriatrician and Stroke Physician at Tallaght University Hospital in Dublin and National Clinical Lead of the HSE National Stroke Programme, who will give an update on the programme and Joan McCormack who will cover the National Stroke Register.

Professionals working in all aspects of stroke care are invited to attend the conference which will discuss a range of topics pertinent to the specialty including stroke nursing, unusual vasculopathies, hidden and unexpected challenges after mild stroke and the role of psychology within a stroke service.

Organised by the Irish Heart Foundation’s Council on Stroke the event will take place on Friday, 05 April 2019 in the Croke Park Conference Centre, Dublin.
