Y-PATH is hugely beneficial for students

Y-PATH PE 4 ME aims to help young people of all abilities increase their activity levels and learn to love being active for the sake of their future health.

Youth Physical Activity Towards Health (Y-PATH PE 4 ME) is an unique programme aimed at improving the physical activity levels of children and young people in Ireland through the Physical Education (PE) module in the school curriculum.

The overall goal of Y-PATH PE 4 Me is to stop the age-related decline in physical activity generally seen in the teenage years and to support schools in encouraging young people to develop healthy habits for life.

The programme is based on a whole school approach led by the PE teacher in PE classes and is recognised by UCC, Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST) and Sport Ireland.

With an individualised and student centred approach, Y-PATH PE 4 Me supports students of all levels of ability to enjoy their PE class and get active. The long term programme has been specifically designed for Irish post-primary schools and promotes an engaging and motivating learning environment.

Research conducted by Dublin City University (DCU) has shown that the Y-PATH programme helps students increase their levels of physical activity which can have a positive effect on academic ability, concentration, behaviour and attentiveness in class.

“Y-PATH is hugely beneficial for students, they are more attentive in class after PE.”
