Struggling for motivation through these strange times?
It’s hard to find motivation to workout at the best of times… and these are not the best of times. Our gyms have closed, we’re social distancing and shouldn’t really be leaving the house unless completely necessary.
Without that motivational gym set-up and seeing other people working hard around you, it can be really hard to push yourself. And the sofa is right there… Netflix is calling. But, with weeks of isolation and limited movement on the horizon, it’s more important than ever that we stay active and keep our bodies as healthy as possible.
Tip to keep moving and exercising when motivation flags
- Schedule activity into your day, everyday
- Try to get out to your local green space during daylight hours
- Set yourself a personal challenge such as to walk 100km in 4 weeks
- Take part in a virtual step challenge with friends using the many free apps available
- Follow a structured plan like Couch 2 5k or Move More Walking Challenge
- If you don’t currently exercise regularly use this time to create positive exercise habits
- Many gyms and fitness coaches are posting free online workouts so look on social media or You Tube and try some new virtual workouts
- Dig out any exercise equipment you have like a yoga mat or dumbbells etc. and create a workout space in your home, if you see it you will use it
