The Teach no nDaoine Community Heart Project in Monaghan aims to promote healthier lifestyles in the community through a number of programmes and activities. These include, the development of a community garden, healthy eating courses and walking groups.
Working in partnership with Irish Heart Foundation, the Project aims to help raise awareness of heart health and improve the cardiovascular health of the community.
The Project recently held a successful ‘Community Heart Health Day’ to raise awareness of the initiative and encourage local people to take part. The Irish Heart Foundation’s Mobile Health Unit was on site on the day providing free blood pressure checks.
Teach na nDaoine’s Community Heart Project’s activities include, cookery classes, developing the community garden and swimming lessons. The Project’s active Advisory Group includes, the County Council, the ETB, the HSE and the Sports Partnership.
All stakeholders work together to share resources and help ensure the success and sustainability of the Project.
My Son has really benefited from the fitness programmes introduced through the summer camps over the years. He has a lost a lot of weight and has now joined a gym. Through the Community Heart Projects, myself, I have gained a lot of confidence.
