Risk factors are the things that make you more susceptible to developing cardiovascular disease.

There are a number of risk factors that can lead to the development of heart disease and stroke. Some of these risk factors can be changed, such as your lifestyle, the amount of exercise you take and the food you eat. However, some cannot be changed such as age and genetics or family history.

The good news is that research has shown that 90 per cent of risk factors for heart disease can be controlled.
