Sean Murphy was appointed as Consultant Stroke Physician at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, in October 2010.
He is currently Co-Director of the Mater Acute Stroke Service. He had previously been a Consultant Physician at Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar (1995-2010). He qualified from NUI Galway in 1983. He subsequently trained in General Internal Medicine at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals, USA (1987-9) followed by a Geriatric Medicine Fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA (1989-1991). He completed his MD while a Research Fellow at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge UK (1991-2) before completing his clinical training as a Senior Registrar in General/Geriatric Medicine at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, UK (1992-5).
He was appointed as an Associate Professor of Medicine at RCSI Medical School in 2008 and a Senior Lecturer in Medicine at UCD School of Medicine in 2013.
