The Irish Heart Foundation Council on Stroke’s 23rd Annual Stroke Conference for healthcare professionals will take place on Friday the 27th of March at The Printworks conference centre in Dublin Castle.
The day long event will feature international and Irish experts in stroke care including, Professor Peter Kelly from the Mater University Hospital in Dublin who will provide a summary on recent large stroke trials, Professor Nicola Sprigg from the University of Nottingham in the UK, who will discuss advances in haemorrhagic stroke and Professor Charles Wolfe from the Kings College London, who will speak on the Long-term needs of stroke survivors.
A special session entitled ‘Hot Topics’ will include presentations on driving after stroke, plant-based diet: fact or fad and the importance of sleep in stroke rehabilitation.
Professor Rónán Collins, Clinical Lead with the HSE National Stroke Programme, will provide an update on the programme and a number of parallel sessions at the event will also include topics such as atrial fibrillation, thrombectomy, physiotherapy in the management of spasticity and dysphagia rehabilitation post stroke.
The afternoon of the conference will feature a plenary debate with the topic ‘Acute Stroke – is it time for hospital bypass in Ireland?’
Professor Marion Walker from the University of Nottingham in the UK, will speak on moving stroke rehabilitation research into clinical practice and a number of selected high scoring abstracts presented at the meeting will also be highlighted.
The Stroke Conference is organised by the Irish Heart Foundation’s Council on Stroke which is dedicated to promoting excellence in stroke care in Ireland.
